26. My board was more springy when it was new; does the spring wear out?

One of the following two situations usually describes what has happened to the "springiness":

1) The mounting equipment has worked loose such that the energy the diver puts into the board is absorbed by the flexing of the stand.

2) Duraflex has changed the design of the competition board over the years. A newer board will have better performance than an older one based only on design.

The "springiness" of a board does not change. The aluminum of the diving board is an aircraft alloy with a yield strength of about 50,000 psi. The weight of a diver is too small to fatigue or "work harden" the diving board.
