20. Do I need a mounting kit to bolt the diving board onto the support structure?

There is a manufacturer that makes a diving board mounting kit. This is advertised in pool equipment catalogs. It has 2 steel plates and 2 rubber pads. We can see a real purpose for this kit to bolt down fiberglass or wood diving boards. Our diving board has its own reinforcement riveted to the anchor end. The rubber defeats the purpose of getting the proper tightness of the bolts. We want the bottom of the carriage bolt heads to fit tightly into the square holes of our anchor angle. We want a solid 110 ft lbs of torque on the nut. We want the ribs of our board seated flat on the hinge piece (2 ribs contact per hinge, with the Duraflex model) or the Maxiflex U-shaped pieces to be flat on the hinge. For a pipe stand mounting, the ribs can press directly on the pipe.

Whatever you use, the carriage bolts will need occasional tightening. We believe that the forces of the board will more readily work loose fasteners that are trying to compress rubber than fasteners that had 110 ft. lbs. of torque (with no rubber in between).
