This question usually comes up when the swimmers' starting blocks are moved to the deep end of the pool where the diving equipment is already installed.
It is possible to remove the rails from a Durafirm stand, but you set yourself up for serious liability problems. Once you modify what we manufactured, in any accident related to your modification, it is up to you to defend yourself against blame.
What you want is something easily removed and easy to replace, without tools, by a Swim Coach. If you don't have that, the foreseeable misuse is that the swimmers will disassemble the rails for the swim meet; and when the meet is over, the rails will be in a pile somewhere, leaving the diving board stand in a dangerous condition.
If you look at our stand design, you see that the rail supports come off the fulcrum box at an angle, and each support is fastened by 5 bolts. The angle is necessary because the diving board is only 20" wide, and an adult diver needs to be able to swing his/her arms in the approach to the dive. The top of the curved rail is as much as 6 feet off the deck for the 1M stand, and 3 feet between left and right rails. If the rail supports don't bring the intermediate rail closer to the diving board, smaller users of the board would not be able to reach the intermediate rail. Therefore, the inward angle of the supports is absolutely necessary for the safety of the users of the diving board.
In order to have easily removable rails, we suggest that you have a contractor build a pedestal for our Short Stand (no handrails model) and make the pedestal wide enough for vertically straight drop-in rail supports and rails. The contractor can cast sleeves into the pedestal and make the supports and rails of stainless steel tubing.
